Project Varjao

Currently, the residues from constructions of the Federal District are disposed at  the Jockey Club Controlled Landfill, bordering Cidade Estrutural.

Besides the residues from the civil construction, this landfill receives all the domestic waste produced in the Federal District,  it’s physical  capacity is  almost exceeded.

Seeking a model that come dastrically reduce  the amount of material that is disposed into landfills, ECO Attitude environmental actions  has developed this pioneer project with an Overflow, Selection and Recycling Area for construction residues was implanted in Varjão last March, 2009.

The goal of this project is to minimize the environmental impacts from the production of construction residues and reduce the exploitation of natural resources and a alternative for the production of recycled materials to be used in constructions and  a plus  income for the  hand picker communities that will be  part of  the Project. The lot in Varjão used for the Project is of about 2.400m², is being used as an overflow for residues provided from construction sites of the region  .

The material that incomes the area  goes through a Mobile Picking Line (Planta Móvel de Triagem – PMT). The PMT  has  10 side openings  used to separate different kind of materials as steel, iron, plastic, paper, and  other materials that can not be processed to produce recycled aggregate.

After the selection/picking process, the  “Class A” residue is  ready to be  processed .

The residues taken form the picking process are commercialized to recycling companies, and the money  from the sales is donated to the hand pickers community involved in the process.

The “Classe A” residues are processed in the mobile  crushing unit and becomes  a high quality recycled aggregate. The recycled aggregate is used in the base courses of paved structures and in non-structural concrete-paved areas.

The production in the ATTR of Varjão  has  a capacity of production of  20m³/h of outflow.
