Community work to clean the Paranoá Lake

In Brasilia, the Clean Up Day was solemnly opened with a performance by the Brasilia Military Police orchestra

With the participation of this collective work developed by approximately 30 girl-scouts, 374 volunteers and 28 divers. The effort was developed on different sites of the Paranoá lake shore (bottom and surface), Itororó Fall, Poço Azul, Cedro Lagoon, Brasilia's Zoo EPA.

The volunteers who developed activities on the surface were divided into teams that covered different sites around the Paranoá Lake, as follows: Ermida Dom Bosco and the margins (nearby the JK Bridge).

About 28 volunteer divers were ready to remove the waste from the bottom of the Paranoá Lake on two sites nearby the Dam and the JK Bridge. Most of the wastes were found up to 4.0 m in depth.

The waste removed from those sites was convened to the Sorting Unit, nearby the JK Bridge. ASTRADASM – composed of recyclables pickers from Santa Maria, was in charge of sorting, weighting and further trading of the recyclables. The non-recyclable fraction was disposed at the Jóquei Clube de Brasilia Landfil

This edition of the Clean Up rested on the partnership and support of CAENGE Ambiental, Academia FIT 21, ASTRADASM, Casa do Mergulhador, Search and Saving Company of the Federal District Fire Corps, Unibanco, Brasilia Girl-scout Federation, South Lake District Administration, Outback restaurant, the Federal District Environment Secretariat, Antilhas, Video Clipping Produções and Capital Recicláveis.
